COMPASS project team members participated in the DNA panel

Institute of International Politics and Economics and Argentine Council for International Relations organised an online round table entitled “Serbian and Argentinian Experiences in Cooperation with China within the BRI”. The round table was held under the auspices of a new format – “Discussions, Narratives, Analyses” (DNA), within the project “Contributing to Modern Partnerships: Assessments of Sino-EU Serbian Relations” (COMPASS), financed by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia.

COMPASS project lead, dr. Ivona Lađevac held the introductory speech and project team member dr. Aleksandar Mitić moderated the event. Project team members dr. Katarina Zakić and dr. Nenad Stekić presented their research within the COMPASS project, on Sino-Serbian economic cooperation and political and security dimensions of Serbia-China relationship, respectively.

This research was supported by Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia, Grant No. 7294, “Contributing to Modern Partnerships: Assessments of Sino-EU-Serbian Relations” – COMPASS.

Call for abstracts for the Dialogues on China conference is opened

The 4th edition of the Dialogues on China academic conference is scheduled for October 10-11 in Belgrade, Serbia. This year’s theme, “Harvesting the winds of change: China and global actors”, seeks to convene experts from Europe, China, and across the globe to analyse evolving dynamics of China’s role in global politics, security, and economics.

The second day of the Conference will be hosted as part of the COMPASS Project implementation, focusing on innovative practices and analyses of small states’ foreign policy shaping within the new geopolitical context. The event is organised by the Institute of International Politics and Economics and the Institute of European Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

Dissemination of the COMPASS project in 2023

Senior Research Fellow of the Institute of International Politics and Economics and head of the COMPASS research team dr Ivona Lađevac, together with team member and research fellow dr Aleksandar Mitić, presented the project on November 29, 2023 on Radio-Television Serbia, during the show „Jutarnji program“ („Morning Show“), under the title „Nauka i politika“ („Science and politics“). Regular COMPASS Project team meeting was held on 27 December 2023.

At the meeting the team discussed and worked on the writing of the integral report on Serbia’s relations with the EU and China in the areas of politics, security and economics and on the procurement of the project equipment.

COMPASS kick-off meeting held

Kick-off meeting of the research team of the “Contributing to Modern Partnerships: Assessments of Sino EU-Serbian Relations” (COMPASS) project was held on 4 December 2023. It marked the first activity of the project approved under the PRISMA programme of the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia.

At the kick off meeting were present all members of the project research team: Dr. Ivona Lađevac, manager of the project, Prof Branislav Đorđević, Dr. Sanja Filipović, Dr. Katarina Zakić, Dr. Aleksandra Mitić, Dr. Nenad Stekić, and MA Pavle Nedić.

At the meeting the team discussed starting steps for the project implementation, and focused on the preparation and organization of the first activities within the COMPASS project, namely the writing of the reports on the Serbia’s relations with the EU and China in the areas of politics, security and economics.

COMPASS project implementation starts

Project “Contributing to Modern Partnerships: Assessments of Sino-EU-Serbian Relations” (COMPASS) implemented by the Institute of International Politics and Economics and the Institute of Social Sciences has started on December 1, 2023. The project duration is two years and is being funded by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia within the PRISMA programme.

The main aim of the project is to assess key risks in relations between Serbia and two of its major international partners, the European Union and China, in three areas: politics, security, and economics.

The project outputs will, among others, include a searchable platform of risk contingencies and risk matrixes, a number of published scientific articles, international scientific conference and set of policy recommendations for decision-makers.
